Latest News Philippines: MTRCB cracks whip vs TV5 execs – Journal.com.ph:
THE Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has cracked the whip against officials of TV5 for inquiry on the gender sensitivity and decorum of its noontime show, “Wowowillie.”
In its official account on micro-blogging site Twitter, the MTRCB said the TV5 officials concerned with “Wowowillie” have been summoned “for gender-sensitivity and decorum inquiry over its noontime show.”
“MTRCB’s jurisdiction is principally over the program, not particular personalities in a show,” the MTRCB said, referring to the show’s tv host Willie Revillame.
“In calling ABC5, the MTRCB cites its MOU with the former and other networks on the Portrayal of Women in Media & Film,” it added.
The order is in connection with the Wowowillie episode aired on Feb. 28, wherein Revillame castigated co-host Ethel Booba on air for allegedly raising her voice at him over a joke he made about her outfit.
Earlier in the show, Revillame compared Booba’s attire to actress Anne Curtis during the latter’s controversial production number on the concert variety program “ASAP” in February.
Ms. Booba later replied to Revillame: “Ano ito? Bakit mo kami ikino-compare doon? We’re talking about talent, not singit. Come on!”
Both hosts’ banter had the term “singit” repeatedly mentioned.
Later in the program, Revillame dared Ethel Booba to resign from the show, following their alleged argument backstage. The comedienne has since announced she will no longer return to “Wowowillie.”
Earlier, the MTRCB said it has been “bombarded with ‘GMRC’ (good manners and right conduct) complaints thru social media over ABC5’s noontime show.”
It added that “as in all cases, the MTRCB shall endeavor to hear the side of all parties concerned.”
It will be recalled that the board has probed Curtis’ wet-look scene at her ASAP show on ABS-CBN as well as Party Pilipinas of GMA 7 over Lovie Poe and Rocco Nacino’s controversial dance number aired last Jan. 27.
Also yesterday, MTRCB chair Atty. Eugenio Toto Villareal said that they have not received any copy of the Court of Appeals decision on the case of the Tulfo brothers.
“So out of prudence and respect for process, I will have to decline to make any remark or comment. Should we receive any such ruling, I would have to consult the Office of the Solicitor General since they are our lawyers,” Villareal said, referring to the CA voiding the board’s suspension order against TV5’s “T3 Kapatid Sagot Kita” hosted by brothers Raffy, Ben and Irwin Tulfo.
