PHILIPPINE National Police Highway Patrol Group director Chief Superintendent Arazzad P. Subong yesterday announced key changes in the main PNP unit tasked to fight car thefts, hijacking and highway robberies in the country.

Subong said he has designated erstwhile HPG Regional Office 3 chief Senior Supt. Sheldon Jacaban as the new HPG regional chief in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region.

On the other hand, Senior Supt. Eliseo Cruz was named as new HPG Region 3 chief tasked to spearhead the PNP-HPG’s operations in Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Olongapo, Aurora and Bataan.

Erstwhile HPG Region 4-A chief, Senior Supt. Arnel Escobal is now the HPG regional officer in Bicol, he said.

Subong has ordered an intensified nationwide campaign against carjackers, highway robbers and hijackers particularly targeting ‘operators’ or those who actually steal motor vehicles and delivery vans or rob victims in Manila, Calabarzon and Central Luzon.

He also ordered the strengthening of the HPG Special Operations Division-Task Force Limbas now under Supt. Ferdinand Villanueva to spearhead the crackdown against notorious car thieves. Subong said he also will field SOD-Task Force Limbas officers and men in different police districts in Metro Manila to help the National Capital Region Police Office curb down car thefts.
