BULACAN – Residents of San Miguel town were surprised when rampaging floodwaters cascaded down from the mountains in the eastern part of the province where at least 14 villages were submerged by flashfloods.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said flashfloods hit Barangays Malibay, Maligaya, Bardias, Lambakin, King Kabayo, Baritan, Sta. Lucia, Salacot, Cambio, Pinambaran, Ilog Bulo, Bagong Silang, Mandile and Batasan Matanda past 7 p.m. Saturday.

Barangay Ilog Bulo chief Armando Gamboa said the residents got even more scared after floodwater reached their homes. Some areas were submerged under three to four-feet deep water.

The PDRRMO said the floodwater subsided after three hours. However, some parts of Barangay Ilog Bulo, where the Bulo irrigation dam is located, remained underwater as of press time.

Gamboa said the flood destroyed millions of pesos worth of crops and poultry. He said this was the third time for flashflood to occur in San Miguel villages. Some residents prepared to evacuate for fear of another flashflood.

Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado dispatched the local emergency rescue team to help to the residents. He also ordered the Bulo dam repaired.
