AGENTS of the Police Regional Office 2 on Friday captured a suspected New People’s Army member wanted for his involvement in the deadly ambush of Army soldiers in Ifugao, PRO2 director Chief Supt. Rodrigo P. de Gracia said yesterday.

De Gracia identified the suspect as Rene Esmondo Abiva whom he described as a former NPA cadre and member of the CPP/NPA’s Regional White Area Committee operating in Cagayan Valley.

The Cagayan Valley police commander said Abiva was arrested at 4:35 p.m. by PRO2 intelligence operatives along Taft Street in Bagumbayan, Tuguegarao.

He said Abiva and his wife Mildred Goyagoy, a former secretary of Karapatan, are facing murder charges in connection with the ambush in Ifugao.

Warrants for the two’s arrest have been issued by a local court. De Gracia said the suspect is now undergoing interrogation in a local police headquarters prior to his turnover to an Ifugao court. Alfred Dalizon & Zaida delos Reyes-Palanca
