FIVE more notorious street-level drug personalities were arrested and jailed by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in a series of anti-narcotics operations in the countryside this week, PDEA chair Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac,  Jr. said yesterday.

One of the five identified as Gerald Joy Baguio alias ‘Intsik,’ a 24-year-old Level 1 pusher in Cebu City was arrested after he sold Php400,000 worth of shabu to an undercover agent in Sitio Hawud, Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City, Cebu  early morning on Wednesday.

Cacdac said members of the PDEA Regional Office 7 under Director Jigger Montallana have placed Baguio under strict surveillance amid persistent complaints regarding his drug-pushing activities in his neighborhood.

Apart from the drugs and the marked money, the suspect also yielded assorted drug paraphernalia and cash deposit slips.

A case for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 12 (Possession of Drug Paraphernalia), Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 is being prepared against Baguio.

Cacdac also announced the arrest last Tuesday of Joel Abel Velasquez alias “Mason” and four of his companions during a buy-bust operation along Don Tranquilino Palisoc Drive in Mabini St., Poblacion, Urbiztondo, Pangasinan.

He said that the 50-year-old Velasquez has  long been a  target of the PDEA Regional Office 1 under Director Rogelio Cabrera until he was finally caught after selling 25 grams of shabu to a poseur.

The PDEA operatives assisted by the local police also arrested four companions of Velasquez identified as Melissa Buena, 26, jobless; Arneley Valdez, 26; Ernesto Fernandez, 20; and a 13-year-old boy.  Except Buena, the three all worked as household helpers.

Empty plastic sachets containing shabu residue, assorted drug paraphernalia, mobile phones, cash money in different denominations and the two marked Php500 bills were recovered from the suspects.

Also last Wednesday, PDEA Regional Office 5 agents arrested Noel Evangelista, 35, a wanted drug dealer during a sting in Barangay 19, Cabangan-San Miguel, Legazpi City. Evangelista yielded three sachets of shabu.

All suspects are now facing charges for violation of RA 9165.
