NAGA CITY –Super typhoon “Yolanda” spared the Bicol mainland but lashed the island province of Masbate, Burias and Ticao and the Eastern part of Sorsogon.

The coastal areas of Catanduanes, Masbate, Albay,Legazpi City and Camarines Sur province were struck by sea surges. Landslides occurred in the coastal towns of Partido in Camarines Sur and the circumferential road in Catanduanes province.

Masbate provincial government spokesperson Merina Esmir yesterday said there were two reports of deaths in Ticao island and Uson Masbate. They were identified as  Felix Dequimla,15, and a certain Joan. Dequimla was electrocuted inside their house at the height of the typhoon. Joan was killed by a fallen treen in Uson town.

Communication lines in Masbate were cut before noon Friday.

The Masbate PDRRMC also reported that towns  of Palanas, Esperanza, Placer, Cawayan, Dimasalang, Milagros, and Balod had the most  number of families evacuated since early Thursday.

In Sorsogon, the PDRRMC evacuated some 19,275 families.

In Camarines Sur, storm surges destroyed 50 edifices along the coast lines in Bgy. Nato which was considered a tourist and fishing area.            Sonny Sales
