Latest News Philippines: Lovi not leaving GMA7? – Journal.com.ph:

LOVI Poe says she has already made a decision on whether she’d stay with GMA7 or move to TV5, but she won’t reveal it yet. “Hintayin n’yo na lang,” she says at the presscon of “The Bride and the Lover.” “It was a tough decision to make. I spent sleepless nights.”

Our guess is that she has decided to stay with GMA even if TV5 already has a project for her with Ruffa Gutierrez and Alice Dixson.

Lovi is very pleased with her role as Vivian Paredes in “The Bride and the Lover.” “I’m the daughter of a very wealthy real estate magnate. Best friends kami ni Jennylyn Mercado from grade school. I’m about to marry Paulo Avelino, but on our wedding day, I decided to walk out on him when I learned he had an affair with Jennylyn. I became very bitter and gets transformed to a more assertive aggressive woman.

Naging frenemies kami ni Jen lalo na when I heard sila na ni Paulo at sila naman ang ikakasal. Sa wedding nila, sumugod ako and we have a big fight sa Fernwood Gardens na siyang venue ng wedding nila. Nagpagulong-gulong talaga kami, sabunutan, sampalan, suntukan. Pero hindi kami nagkapikunan. We later hugged each other.”

We heard her love scene with Paulo is quite hot. “Actually, yung love scene ko with Ahron Villena, na naghubad ako then jumped into the swimming pool to seduce him, is more daring. Ako kasing initiator doon. When I saw the rushes, nahiya ako sa ginawa ko and I said, delete, delete! But hindi naman nila dinelete so you’d see it sa movie. Kay Paulo, comfortable na ako kasi we’ve done a love scene na rin sa first team up namin, ‘Aswang’.”

Lovi is really busy as she has just finished the Cinemalaya entry for Direk Jerrold Tarog,”Sana Dati,” again with Paulo. She plays a woman whose loved one died and can’t move on. She’s now shooting “Lihis,” also for Direk Joel, with rumored BF Jake Cuenca. “Hindi kami talaga ni Jake. I’m really focused sa work ko lang. It’s with Joem Bascon that I have a love scene in ‘Lihis,’ not with Jake kasi gay lover siya ni Joem dito.”

LEA Salonga says there have been offers before for her to participate in singing contests but her hectic sked didn’t allow it. For TV5, she agreed to only sing the theme song of “Kanta Pilipinas.” Now, she has agreed to be one a mentor in ABS-CBN’s “The Voice of the Philippines.”

“I really love the format of this show. I’ve been helped by a lot of mentors when I was young and it now allows me to pay it forward in passing on whatever knowledge I gained through the years to the new singers who’ll join it. I really moved mountains for me to be a part of the show and I’m  glad everything fell into place so it won’t conflict with my commitments in Japan and the U.S.”

She’s happy to be working with Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo and Apl de Ap as co-mentors. What can she say about Sarah doubting her own credibility as a mentor?

“I’d like to think that all of us are credible. Sarah started as a singer when she was 14 years old. So, she’s been at this a long time and she’s no neophyte. She’s been at this longer than other people, so she should put her doubts away.”

As a coach, she’d be very candid in voicing her opinions. “Hindi ko aasukalin ang sasabihin ko. I’m not going to be insulting or purposefully hurt their feelings but I guess the one thing I can contribute is honesty to say the truth, yung katotohanan.”

In her Twits and her column, she’s always been very opinionated and she answers back to her bashers. “Some consider me a bitch kasi outspoken naman talaga ako. I don’t think bitchiness is the best approach in ‘The Voice’ but it really depends on what members of my team would need. But if someone’s getting to be too arrogant o mayabang, then they won’t like what I have to say as I’ll give it to them unfiltered. I don’t care if the audience would say I’m suplada. My priority naman is to help my team. It’s really about them. They’re the real stars here, not us mentors. I’d really push them hard as I believe it can help them when they go out into the real world, so they’d be strong enough to take whatever comes.”

At this point, someone wants to know if Sarah Geronimo would also be “mataray” as a mentor. “Curious ba kayo sa bitchy side ko?” she asks. To which Lea quips laughing: “She might out-bitch me!”

“Hindi naman ako mangongopya ng style ni Ms. Lea,” says Sarah. “Huwag naman. All I can offer is my sincerity, ‘yung buong pusong pagtulong o pagbahagi ng anumang nalalaman ko that I got from my ten years in the business.”

RICHARD Gutierrez is elated that the pilot week of his new primetime action-suspense series, “Love and Lies,”  did quite impressively in the ratings, with it being the leader in its timeslot according to AGB Nielsen. “The feedback from viewers is also great so it’s really very encouraging,” he says. “When people see me in public, they tell me they’re watching ‘Love and Lies’ kaya very upbeat talaga ang atmosphere sa taping namin ngayon. Masaya kaming lahat, from Direk Mark Reyes to my co-stars Michelle Madrigal, Bela Padilla, Sid Lucero and Paolo Contis.

Ganado lahat kami magtrabaho.”

All the cast members, along with GMA7, would like to thank the Philippine Navy who really cooperated with them and supported the show. The Philippine Navy personnel themselves appreciate that the show is putting them in a good light. On April 28, the whole cast will give a special tribute to the Philippine Navy with musical numbers that will honor them in “Party Pilipinas” and this will be held at the Philippine Navy Headquarters on Roxas Blvd. no less.

KAPUSO teen actor Kristoffer Martin is thankful that right after his role as Dingdong Dantes’ brother in “Pahiram ng Sandali,” GMA quickly cast him as one of Kim Rodriguez’ leading men in “Kakambal ni Eliana” that starts this afternoon.

“I play Gabo,” he says. “Ako’ng tumulong kay Kim as Eliana after she escapes from her grandparents na nagkulong sa kanya dahil may kakambal siyang ahas na nakakabit sa likod niya.”

Doesn’t he miss his Tween Hearts ka-love team, Joyce Ching, who’s missing in action? “May communication naman kami and she’s happy for me na may bagong show agad ako.”

Does he think Kim is ready for stardom? “Oo naman. Kasama rin namin siya sa Tween Hearts, where she started, at magaling siyang umarte. Dito nga sa ‘Eliana,’ kayang-kaya niya lahat ng mabibigat na eksenang pinagawa sa kanya dahil inaapi siya ng mga tao dahil sa ahas sa likod niya.”

JOEL Lamangan is the director of the moment. After “Menor de Edad,” he has now completed “The Bride & The Lover” for Regal and is shooting two new films: “Lihis” with Lovi Poe, Jake Cuenca and Joem Bascon and “Burgos,” the Edith Burgos Story, starring Lorna Tolentino in the title role.

At the presscon for “Burgos” (held at the new Relish resto which is not ideal for presscons since it’s so cramp and has a bad sound system), we asked Direk Joel if his treatment of “Burgos” will be similar to that of “Dukot,”  also about desaparecidos, which is constructed like a thriller with scenes of protest rallies.

“No, ‘Burgos’ will be a quiet film,” he says. “It will show the struggles of a family searching for the truth, about the anguish of a mother and her agonizing journey looking for her missing son. Hindi ito political kundi more personal, more internal.”

Mrs. Edith Burgos, wife of the late newspaperman Joe Burgos (who we’ve known since the early ‘70s since we’re a counsellor in the Operation Brotherhood campings he held for out of school youth then and we later wrote for his tabloid, “Ang Masa”), says she used to be “mahiyain.”  “But now, natalo na ‘yon ng desire ko na mahanap ang anak ko.” Her son Jonas Burgos was abducted by the military while having lunch at Hapag Kainan at Ever Gotesco Commonwealth on April 28, 2007. “Witnesses say binitbit siya ng apat na lalaki, parang baboy. Six years na siyang wala but I continue to hope na makikita ko uli siya, baka nandiyan lang siya.”

Her faith in God has become stronger. “Kasi nakikita ko talaga ang kamay ng Diyos na kumikilos, pati sa paglantad ng mga ebidensiya tungkol sa pagdukot sa kanya, pati na rin sa paggawa ng pelikulang ito about our search for him na tiyak na makakatulong para sa pamilya ng iba pang mga desaparecido.”

Also in the cast are Rocco Nacino as Jonas, Ina Feleo as his wife, Tirso Cruz III as Joe Burgos, Allen Dizon, Dimples Romana and Kerbie Zamora as the three siblings of Jonas.
