Latest News Philippines: Vhong vs Deniece and Cedric: Your word against mine – Journal.com.ph:
THE case of Vhong Navarro vs. Deniece Cornejo, a model, and Cedric Lee, a businessman who has a daughter with Vina Morales, has become a case of he said/she said or ‘your words against mine’. Vhong says he was just set up by Deniece and her accomplices who beat him up, tried to blackmail him and threatened to kill him and his family. Deniece says she’s the real innocent victim.
Judging on the comments made by the public in social media, it would seem that a lot of folks believe Vhong is the aggrieved party, especially for showbiz folks and writers because Vhong has always been perceived as a Mr. Nice Guy. Let’s just hope and pray that there will be a truly thorough investigation by unbiased parties to ferret out the truth about what really happened and may the real bad guy or guys be punished. We also pray for the safety of Vhong’s children. We heard they’re now hidden in a safehouse because of the threat on their lives. How sad that even innocent children are dragged into this.
JENNYLYN ON MARK: WE’RE BETTER OFF AS FRIENDS
JENNYLYN Mercado is jubilant over the positive feedback the first few episodes of her “Rhodora X” is getting. “Lahat ng nakapanood, they tell me they find the story of a woman with a split personality really engrossing, kasi naiiba talaga from the usual soaps,” she says. “Curious na raw sila how I will interpret yung Rhodora/Roxanne character na totally opposite ang personalities. Lalabas na ako mamayang gabi as the grownup character and I hope hindi sila ma-disappoint sa magiging performance ko.”
Her ex-BF Luis Manzano is now chummy with ex-GF Angel Locsin. How about her, is she now also closer once more with ex-BF Mark Herras after they’ve worked anew in “Rhodora X”?
“Ang dami talaga nagtatanong niyan: Magbabalikan din ba kayo ni Mark? Ang sagot ko: Mark and I have a special friendship kasi sampung taon na kaming magkasama mula nang mag-start kami sa ‘Starstruck’. Pag friendship, mas tatagal ‘yan, di ba? Pero kung romantic relationship, we can never tell kung ano mangyayari. So I prefer na maging friends na lang kami ni Mark dahil gusto ko, maging forever ‘yung friendship namin. Ayokong mawala ‘yun. And like I said, wala akong binabalikan sa mga ex ko, kaya nga ako si Rhodora X,” she laughs.
Did she somehow feel hurt when she heard Angel saying she still loves Luis? “Anuman ang issue about them, I don’t think I’m in a position para magsalita. Out na ako diyan. Sila na lang ang tanungin n’yo. Ang focus ko ngayon is ‘Rhodora X’, gusto ko mag-rate ito nang husto. At enjoy naman ako doing my two different roles na ang isa, kimi, tahimik, at ‘yung isa, agresibo, mahadera, palaban.”
ROBIN: RUSTOM ISN’T DEAD
THE original title of Robin Padilla’s new movie that opens today is “Kuratong Baleleng.” Why did they change it to “Sa Ngalan ng Ama, Ina at mga Anak”?
Pagbalik niya sa akin, ‘Tol Robinhood ‘to. So naisip naming gawing pelikula ang buhay at exploits niya. Lahat ng mapapanood dito, totoong nangyari.”
Meanwhile, Robin dismisses the rumor that his brother, Rustom who became BB Gandanghari, has died but they’re keeping it a secret because he perished from a deadly disease. “Hindi totoo ‘yon kasi may communication kami. Kung wala, baka mag-worry ako. Nakakausap siya ng Mama namin. Dapat, kasama siya rito sa movie, pero tumanggi siya kasi ang role niya lalaki.”
His daughter Kylie’s BF, Aljur Abrenica, is also in the movie. How is Aljur? “There was a time na nagalit ako kasi may shooting sila ni Kylie sa Ozamis pero naiwan siya ng eroplano. Naawa ako sa anak ko kasi nandun na siya sa Ozamis. Pero after that, wala naman kaming naging problema. May tiwala naman ako sa anak ko. Alam na niya ang dapat niyang gawin. Welcome naman si Aljur sa aming pamilya.”
BIG SPORTS EVENTS ON TV5
COACH Vincent ‘Chot’ Reyes is the head of Sports5, the sports division of TV5, and he announces their line up of international and local sports events this 2014. “It’ll be an exciting year that’s really full packed,” says the 5-time PBA Coach of the Year and coach of the country’s national team, Smart Gilas, that will compete in the FIBA conference in Spain.
The 51-year old Chot has been coaching for 30 years now, starting while still a college student at the Ateneo. At the age of 29, he became the youngest coach to win as a first timer in the All Filipino Conference with him coaching the Coney Island Stars of Alvin Patrimonio and Jerry Codiñera, known now as Purefoods. He got married when he was 19. He and his wife Cherry owns the Toni & Guy Hair Salon franchise. Cherry is the hairdresser of Pres. Noynoy Aquino since he was a senator. They have four kids: Josh or Ice is 31 and has been assistant coach in Talk N Text since 2008, Moses is 27 and is into information design, Isaiah is 23 and plays with the San Beda Team B, the youngest and only girl is Rebecca, 19, now taking up interdisciplinary studies at Ateneo.
For TV5, the first big event coming up is “Super Bowl 48,” America’s biggest sporting spectacle. “We’ll bring the opening in all its glory, including the half time with Bruno Mars performing. This will be aired starting 7:30 a.m. on February 3, Monday. On February 8 naman, we’ll show the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi, Russia, with 17-year old figure skater Michael Martinez as the first homegrown Filipino to compete in the games. Also in February, we’ll give you ‘Ronda Pilipinas’, the biggest local cycling competition in a 14-stage, 1,800 km. race with both local and foreign cyclists competing. We’ll give a roundup every night at 10 p.m. In March, we’ll bring basketball action in the ‘U.S. NCAA March Madness’.”
And there’s more for the rest of the year. From August 16 to 28, they’ll cover the 2014 Youth Olympics to be held in Nanjing, China where there’ll be 222 medal events in 28 sports. And in September, they’ll bring the Asian Games to be held in Incheon, South Korea, where the best Filipino athletes will compete against the best in Asia.
And of course, Sports5 will continue delivering sports action with the PBA, UFL and NCAA. The excitement of the current 39th season of the PBA will grow as Asia’s first professional basketball league celebrates its 40th anniversary in October. All these thrilling sports events will be shown not only on free TV with TV5, AksyonTV and Hyper, but also on your cellfones, Ipads, online and other electronic devices for the new generation of viewers.
What does Coach Chot think of the chances of the Smart Gilas team when they compete at FIBA in Spain later? “Very slim. The other countries have started preparing this early. E, tayo, kakausapin ko pa lang ang PBA sa Thursday about the skeds of their players who’ll be part of the team of 12 players who’d leave their teams and be full time Smart Gilas to join FIBA. I really hope they’ll give us enough time to train and prepare. It’ll be a sacrifice naman for the honor of our country. We will be featuring the players in a series of docus to be shown starting February 17, Monday, 8 p.m., in ‘Kuwentong Gilas, The Road to Spain’. You’ll discover a lot about your favorite players. Ang ibang kuwento nila, nakakaiyak, so don’t miss it.”
