Latest News Philippines: Vic, Pauleen want a ‘quiet romance’ – Journal.com.ph:
LOOKS like Vic Sotto and Pauleen Luna no longer hide their relationship. They were scene stealers at the premiere night of “D’Kilabots Pogi Brothers…Weh?!” at Megamall. When they came into the theatre, the screams of the audience were louder than those of Jose and Wally. They were even wearing matching red-orange outfits.
They were seated together but when the TV crew approached them, Pauleen stood up to keep her distance while Vic was being interviewed. It’s common knowledge she even visited Vic on the set of his filmfest movie with Bong Revilla and yet, she wouldn’t want to talk about her relationship with Vic at all. “Basta ayoko na lang magsalita, mas tahimik, mas masaya,” she says.
Vic is more open. When asked if he’s no longer hiding his liaison with Pauleen, he said: “Wala naman kaming tinatago. We just don’t talk about it para tahimik lang. Kung anong nakikita nyo, yun na yon.”
YAEL GETS FULL SUPPORT FROM KARYLLE
YAEL Yuzon, vocalist of the Sponge Cola, celebrated his birthday on November 22 with the launch of his band’s new album, “District,” in “Party Pilipinas.” Why “District”?
“District represents a part of a bigger whole, just like our album, an extended play instead of a full length album,” he explains. “It has six songs, three of which I co-wrote, ‘XGF’, the carrier single, with Chito Miranda and Los Magno; ‘Twelve’ and ‘It’s About You Girl’. The other cuts are ‘Mahaba Pa ang Gabi’, ‘Pick Your Poison’ and ‘Fireworks’.”
Aside from Yael, other members of the band are Armo on lead guitar, Gosh on bass and Tedmark on drums. The music videos of “XGF” and “Mahaba Pa ang Gabi” can now be seen on MTV stations. The second of three kids, Yael’s older brother Yani is an acting coach on GMA7. It’s also common knowledge Yael is now the special someone of Karylle and she gets along fine with K’s mom, Zsa Zsa Padilla.
“Everyone knows she went through a lot recently with the passing of the Comedy King,” he says. “We tried to be with her and encourage her to relax. We’ve all traveled together to Maldives.”
Does he also get along fine with K’s sister, Zia Quizon? “Yes, we share the same jokes and watch the same shows.”
K auditioned for ‘Miss Saigon.’ What if she made it, would they be ready to live away from each other? “We’re very supportive of each other’s careers. When she did ‘Kitchen Musical’ in Singapore, I visited her. You don’t get closeness naman just from the number of days of being together but in how you connect with each other. I’ve had friends who went abroad but we remain close. You just do what you need to do. Life is short.”
How else does K support him? “When we need a female vocalist to back us up, okay lang sa kanya. And that’s uncredited. She even helps promote our new album.”
What’s next for Sponge Cola? “Our experience in representing the Philippines in the Memphis and Dubai music festival was very encouraging. They love our songs, so we want to expand outside of the Philippines. We intend to release an album compiling our best songs in Southeast Asia.
CRISTALLE’S UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE ON ‘WISH KO LANG’
CRISTALLE Henares Belo had an unforgettable experience in the remote Tara Island in Palawan as the special guest of the 10th anniversary of “Wish Ko Lang.” “Sabi the island is two hours away from Coron and I’m so scared as I have motion sickness,” she says. “But the boat trip took four hours dahil sa laki ng mga alon.
In the island, my guides were Joey and Janice, Tagbanua brother and sister who study in another island that’s an hour away where they stay the whole week and return to their parents on weekends. Very sad ang life nila. They’re 10 brothers and sisters but four have died dahil walang health services sa island. Their younger siblings look malnutritioned. I ate with them, walang ulam sa rice but asin. Walang CR. Natuto ko to do it sa mga tabi-tabi lang, kinagat pa ako ng ants. ‘Wish Ko Lang’ left them so many gifts and supplies. I realized yung problem kong breakup sa boyfriend ko is nothing compared to their everyday problems. Before I went home, they made me a Tagbanua and gave me a new name, Ongkoy, which means dearest friend.”
Cristalle’s experiences in Tara will be shown in “Wish Ko Lang” today at 4 p.m. on GMA7.
THE REAL INDIE QUEEN
ALTHEA Vega had two entries in Cinemalaya last July, “Ang Katiwala” and “Diablo.” In the current Cinema One filmfest, she’s in Khavn de la Cruz’ stylized “EDSA XXX” playing no less than four different roles. Her biggest role is as Martir Yosa, the wife of the president of the fictitious Republika Ek Ek Ek, played by Bong Cabrera. Next is Rizalina, leader of the secret organization called Rizal Underground. She also plays a “taong bayan” in a protest rally and as one of the Bayong Brigade, the villains. She started with the Joel Lamangan indie “Walang Kawala” three years ago and has appeared in nothing but indie films since this. We tell her she’s the true Indie Queen.
“I told my manager Manny Valera gusto ko rin namang gumawa ng mainstream kasi sa indie, maliit lang naman ang bayad sa amin,” she says. “But I’m proud I just finished an international film made by a British director, Sean Ellis. The title is ‘Metro Manila’ and it’s been accepted in the Sundance Filmfest in Utah. I’m hoping isama nila ako roon in January. I play a girl from Banawe who marries Jake Macapagal, the lead actor, who gets involved in a crime. I’ve also finished another movie with Direk Gil Portes, ‘Bayang Magiliw’, playing the kabit of our town mayor, Wendell Ramos.”
“EDSA XXX” will be premiered tonight at EDSA Shangri-La but Althea won’t be there. “I’m part kasi of a flamenco dance concert at the RCBC Theatre in Makati, also to be held tonight. I’ve learned how to dance flamenco as I love its music. I will be doing two dances with our teacher.”
BREAKFAST WITH SICK KIDS
MOTHER Ricky Reyes has finally found a permanent for Child Haus, a home for cancer-stricken kids coming from far provinces seeking treatment in Manila but don’t have a place where they can stay in the city. The new home is in 90 Mapang-akit St. near V. Luna Road, QC. It used to be the home of singer Nonong Pedero. SM mogul Henry Sy bought it for Child Haus.
He invited us to have breakfast with the kids and our hearts really went out to these very young patients afflicted with sarcoma, leukemia and tumors of various kinds. They’re so young to be suffering. There were 35 kids currently in Child Haus, along with their parents.
It’s good some kind souls help support them, like former Rep. Cynthia Villar who gave them early Christmas gifts of food, clothes and toys. She also volunteered to pay for the monthly wages of a regular teacher to be hired by Child Haus. “I’m blessed with a wonderful husband, Sen. Manny Villar and, three loving children so I want to share my blessings with these less fortunate kids,” she says. “I’m a mother and I totally sympathize with the parents of these patients who are helping their sick kids struggle to survive.”
JOBERT’S WARDS ON THE ROAD TO SUCCESS
JOBERT Sucaldito has a radio show, writes columns and is also a talent manager. Right now, he manages two singers: Prima Diva Billy and Michael Pangilinan. “May iba pang nagpapa-manage sa’kin pero okay na muna ako sa kanilang dalawa,” he says. “Gusto ko munang makitang successful sila bago ako magdagdag ng talents.
Very happy naman ako sa kanila, mababait, masisipag at may mga pangarap. Thank God for giving me two wonderful children sa showbiz. Michael made it to the Top 20 of ‘X Factor Philippines’ but not in the finals due to politics in the business. He took it as a challenge to make it on his own and became part of GMA’s ‘Walang Tulugan’ and ‘Party Pilipinas’ as member of a new boyband, Project Four. He’ll now have his first major concert, ‘Michael Pangilinan, The Man Who Can Move’, at Zirkoh Morato on December 5, 10 p.m., with Pilita Corrales, Allan K, Aljur Abrenica and Concert King Martin Nievera as his guests. Parang birthday concert niya ito as he just turned 17 on Nov. 26. Si Billy naman, matutupad na ang pangarap niyang maka-duet ang idol niyang si Lani Misalucha sa back to back concert nila on December 17, 11:30p.m., also at Zirkoh Morato. Guest din nila si Michael sa show nila ni Lani kaya watch it. Mura lang tickets at P1,000 and P600 lang, available at the gate.”
